 Crest

Our crest is as above, it has the coat of arms of the Masons , Glasgow and the family crest of Jervis with the crown of HMS Victory and Pegase upon it and motto below.

Our lodge was consecrated on the 4th May 1874 in the area of Sandyford Glasgow, the main Street which goes through it is named Saint Vincent St. This street was named after a famous Sea Lord, The Earl St Vincent, Admiral John Jervis.

As Admiral of the fleet, Jervis won a famous sea battle against the Spanish at cape St Vincent off the coast of Portugal. His flagship was HMS Victory- latter made famous by Admiral Nelson who served under Jervis as a commodore. (a transcript of the main battle events is now available on the documents page)

Admiral Jervis was a well-known public celebrity and won his fame from his hard lined approach to discipline and all things navel.

As a young Captain Jervis first made a name for himself in the American blockades and brought himself to the fore by capturing a formidable French man 'O' war "La Pegase" (the Pegasus)  in an unheard of and innovative night battle. The emblem of Pegasus was chosen to feature on his Coat of Arms.

The motto "Thus" is old naval term, which can be translated as- steady as she goes.
